The Process of Letting Go

Letting does not mean to "forget".  Letting go does not mean to "forgive".  Letting go means to stop holding on to something that is no longer a part of you.

So how do you do that?

Simply view the past as it truly happened, not the way your mind wants to interpret it.

If you change the angle in which you view the past - your perception of it will also change.

Take the situation that disturbs you and look at it through the eyes of a casual observer.

If this situation was not about you, but about a stranger, how would you see it?

If you saw it not as a mistake, but as a lesson, what would you take away from it?

If you could look at this event five or ten years from now, how would it make you feel?

The mind makes the past more important than it really is.

Break this habit.

Live emotions, don't suppress them.

You can constantly tell yourself: "I'm letting go."

But if the emotions inside you are unprocessed, they won't disappear.

They will come back in dreams, with certain triggers or with memories.

Close your eyes.

Remember the emotions that are still with you.

Feel them not with words, but with your body. Where are these emotions?

In your chest? In your stomach? maybe even in your throat?

Let these emotions be.

Instead of strengthening them by worrying about them.

Let them pass through you as if they are falling through an open space.

You can't get rid of emotions.

But if you let them be, they will stop clinging to you.

Awareness: the past no longer exists

You can hold on to the past, but its not there. There are only your memories of it.

Memories are not your reality. Reality are your actions in the current moment here and now, that is where your reality lies.

Look around.

Notice that what was then is not now. You can't touch it, which means it doesn't exist.

Feel the present moment.

Tell yourself:

"The past is just a memory in my head; it doesn't control me if I don't cling to it".

And let this thought become your release.

When you let go, you become free

To let go means to bring your energy back.

To no longer struggle with what you can't change.

To no longer live with the illusion that it could have been different.

You are no longer the person you were in the past.

You are the here. You are the now, and you live.

And that's the only thing that matters.
